The study of the history and symbolism of flags is known as VEXILLOLOGY from the Latin word, VEXILLUM which means a square flag or banner. Numerous books have been written about the flag. Local and school libraries should have a catalog reference for these books. Also, military and veterans organizations as well as the Daughters of the American Revolution and the American Legion provide useful information on the flag and flag code. You also can find the complete flag code, including laws and proclamations in the depository library in your Congressional district. Your local librarian can assist you in obtaining information from your nearest depository library. |
